Learning Outcomes

By the end of Module 1: Biosecurity, you'll be able to:

Define what biosecurity means and why it matters within poultry operations.

Identify the main types of infectious agents (viruses, bacteria, fungi, parasites), that biosecurity plays a role in controlling access to.

Describe how these pathogens move into and within poultry operations.

Understand and recognise key operational inputs that add risk to a poultry operation.

Recognize that perfection isn’t required, and the need to focus on consistent, realistic application.

Understand that compliance culture is what impacts the farm risk profile, and identify key areas that assist in developing a compliance culture for people.

Evaluate “best practice vs. practical practice” using farm-based examples.

Be able to prepare a bespoke biosecurity plan for your organisation and develop an emergency animal disease response plan.

Alex-Kate was born and raised on a 1 million bird poultry farm comprising of cages, free-range and aviary systems. Throughout her years post-graduation she has worked as a consultant and a company veterinarian and has a wealth of experience in all things poultry. Her passions lie with operations and proactive management systems. She believes that addressing issues proactively can solve many problems, and ultimately increase productivity and profitability on farm.
